Things to see and do

  • The Saint-Martin collegiate church, an 18th-century baroque building listed as a historic monument, is one of the largest and most beautiful churches in the Var. Its monumental organ, paintings and side chapels make it an architectural jewel in the heart of the medieval old town of Lorgues.
  • The Lorgues markets, notably the Tuesday morning Provençal market renowned throughout the Var, bring together local producers, craftspeople and traders in the lanes of the old town. Fruits, vegetables, olives, cheeses and local charcuterie delight food lovers.
  • The Verdon gorges, about fifty kilometres away, are one of the most spectacular natural sites in Europe with their 300-metre limestone cliffs and turquoise waters. Hiking, kayaking, climbing and swimming are all accessible from Lorgues in under an hour.
  • The vineyards and olive groves of Lorgues produce a renowned AOC olive oil and recognised Côtes de Provence wines. Many estates such as Château de Berne open their doors to visitors for tastings in an exceptional Provençal setting.
  • Lake Sainte-Croix, 40 km away, is one of the largest artificial lakes in France with its intense blue-green waters. Swimming, sailing, pedalos and canoeing are all possible, and the entrance to the Verdon gorges by kayak starts from the Pont du Galetas.
