Things to see and do

  • The medieval château de Lançon, whose ruins dominate the village, offers an exceptional panorama over the entire Provençal plain. This historic remnant, accessible on foot from the village centre, bears witness to the commune's medieval past and its strategic role in the defence of the region.
  • Salon-de-Provence, 10 km away, is a historic city known for its Château de l'Empéri, the house of Nostradamus and the Patrouille de France airbase. Its lively medieval old centre and Provençal markets make it an unmissable cultural stop.
  • The Crau plain, visible from Lançon, is a unique plain in Europe, a former alluvial plain of the Rhône now transformed into a sheep steppe. Its national nature reserve shelters rare species such as the little bustard and the European roller.
  • The Alpilles, about twenty kilometres away, are a regional natural park of garrigue and olive landscapes dotted with spectacular hilltop villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, two of the most beautiful villages in France.
  • The Étang de Berre, on the doorstep of Lançon, is the largest saltwater lagoon in Western Europe. Its shores host remarkable natural sites, picturesque villages such as Martigues and classified wetlands that attract many migratory birds.
