Things to see and do

  • The Sainte-Victoire mountain, visible from across Trets, is the most iconic natural site in Provence. Immortalised by Paul Cézanne in over eighty paintings, it offers extraordinary hiking trails up to the Croix de Provence at 946 metres, with panoramas over Aix-en-Provence and the Mediterranean coast.
  • The old village of Trets is best explored on foot through its medieval lanes, partially preserved ramparts and 12th-century Romanesque church. The clock tower and ancient town gates speak of a rich medieval past.
  • Aix-en-Provence, about fifteen kilometres away, is one of the most beautiful cities in France. Its Cours Mirabeau lined with century-old plane trees, its Cézanne and Granet museums, markets and international lyric arts festival make it an unmissable destination.
  • The Côtes de Provence vineyard surrounds Trets and offers many opportunities for visits and tastings at estates renowned for their rosés and characterful reds. The wine route winds through vine landscapes at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire.
  • The Sainte-Baume Massif Regional Natural Park, accessible in under 30 minutes, is a remarkable natural area sheltering a beech forest unique in the Mediterranean and the cave of Mary Magdalene, a pilgrimage site for over a thousand years.
